People may get fat due to many reason.. Most common thing relates to "obesity". People in obese state will really have hard time to reduce weight. Obesity is considered as a most chronic disease. It is defined as excess amount of body fat. This "obese" state has been measure by BMI.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measured from a person's height and weight.  Adults with a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 are normal. Adults with a BMI between 25.0 and 29.9 are considered overweight, those with a BMI of 30 or more are considered obese, and those with a BMI of 40 or more are considered extremely obese.
